8th Grade Applied Science

We are hoping to fly our balsa wood airplanes this week. If the weather holds out, we can use the gymnasium. We will also begin looking at hot air baloon flight.

6th Grade Reading

Students should continue reading their novel. This past week, they were also assigned a project. They can create a poster advertising the school or create a timeline of their main character.

6th Grade Science 10/1 - 10/5

In science this week, we will look at how things are classified, using dichotomous trees as a sorting tool.

8th Grade Applied Science

Students have begun designing their gliders! They will finishing designing and work on building them this week. We look to be flying them Monday Oct. 1.

6th Grade Reading 9/24 - 9/28

We will continue reading our novels. Students should be reading and working on vocabulary each night.

6th Grade Science 9/24 - 9/28

As we prepare for our journey to Mars, we will discuss planning and organization. We will also look at recycling and how we can make the most of our resources on Mars.

8th Grade Applied Science 9/17 - 9/21

We have begun our flight unit. We are looking at the differences in airplane structures and what these differences are used for. For example, an aerobatic plane's wing structure is the same on both the top and bottom so that there is no difference in flight if the plane is upside down. We will continue to learn about these differences as we research design for our balsa wood airplanes.

6th Grade Reading 9/17 - 9/21

We look forward to beginning our first novel for the year! We are starting our realistic fiction unit. The students will be reading different books, but we can expect them to be reading almost every night!

6th Grade Science 9/17 - 9/21

We will begin preparing for our journey to Mars. We will look at what we know about Mars and how that is different from what is here on Earth.

6th Grade Science 9/10 - 9/14

In science this week, we will comtinue competing in Survivor. Please make certain all supplies are here by Firday ! (They are to be used in our Survivor competition!)

6th Grade Reading 9/10 - 9/14

This week, we are reading "The Best School Year Ever". We are working on the vocabulary: quality, shrewd, compliment, resourceful, embarassment, inventive, and enterprising. We will look at and develop some of the characters in the story. On Friday/Monday (9/17), we will have a short quiz and look at our first novels.

Applied Science 9/10 - 9/14

This week, we are going to finish defining teamwork and what a good team looks like. We will define "science" and "technolgy" and look at how these play a role in this course. On Thursday, we are to begin our paper airplane unit.
